photo of Ronald McDonald urging students to readRecently, Westarea Elementary kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students attended an assembly to encourage them to read.  Ronald McDonald urged students to read with magic tricks, juggling, audience participation, and a sock puppet.  The assembly was sponsored by a Westarea Elementary community partner and arranged by Ms. Waters, Westarea Elementary parent facilitator. Ronald McDonald held the students’ attention.  He used magic tricks, juggling, audience participation, and a sock puppet to remind students that “books are our friends”.  The students really enjoyed the assembly and promised to “catch the reading bug”.  Dr. Backman, Westarea Elemenatary principal, and Dr. Kemp-Murray, Westarea Elementary instructional coach, student discussed reading goals and student reading logs.  A great time was had by all.
