Rachel Townsend sang the national anthem. Dr. Backman, Westarea Elementary principal, began the program by welcoming everyone. The musical highlight of the program was the patriotic selections by Westarea 1st and 2nd grade students. Mr. Lattimore, Military Liason for Cumberland County Schools, (a retired military member himself), introduced the speaker.   The speaker for the program was Brigadier General  (Retired) Rodney Anderson. In his talk, Gen.  Anderson celebrated the sacrifices made by

both the military member and his/ her family.   He also hailed the positive contributions veterans and active duty military members to continue to make to society.  After a poem by Robert W., a Westarea 2nd grade student, and educational tips for parents by Ms. Waters, Westarea Elementary parent facilitator, Mrs. Callejas, Westarea Elementary assistant principal, delivered closing remarks.
