Photo of the Civic Oration speakersWestarea Elementary recently held it’s annual Civic Oration Contest recently. The Modern Woodmen of America developed this contest to offer students an opportunity to develop skills in clear thinking and public speaking.  This year students wrote and gave speeches on the topic “Inventions that Have Improved the Quality of Life”.  Each speech had to be at least three minutes, but no more than five minutes, long. The speeches were scored by a panel of judges.  Points were awarded on how well the student organized and presented their speeches as well as on the students’ overall effectiveness.  Congratulations to Toria C., DeKoaven S., Chazidy W., and all the other participants.
