photo of Ms. Butler, a reader, with the Cat in the HatWestarea Elementary recently hosted a large group of community members for annual Read Across America celebration.  Held on Dr, Seuss’ birthday, March 2, this annual event helps to motivate students to read every day. The Junior League, the Fayetteville Senior Federated Club, the Future Educators Club of Fayetteville State University,  the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America of 71st High School,  the Cape Fear Quilters, the Elementary Education Club of Fayetteville State University, and various other community organizations and individuals were represented.  Seeing community members take the time to read a Dr. Seuss book to the class helps students remember how important reading is.  The Cat in the Hat also visited each classroom, interacting with students, teachers, and readers.  The rhythm, rhyme, and general silliness of Dr. Seuss books create positive memories for the students.
